Mosquito Fish (Gambusia)
Mosquito Fish also known as Gambusia (Gambusia affinis) are used to control insect larvae in your pond. They can benefit your pond in many ways. As it’s name suggests, it can help prevent your pond from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Mosquito fish can also protect your pond by feeding on algae and hatching insects that can damage your pond plants. The mosquito fish is native to most areas of North and Central America and is related to the common guppy. It is similar in appearance to the common guppy with a long and slender body and pale gray color. Mosquito fish are live bearing fish meaning they do not spawn eggs and instead bear young fry. They are usually 0.5” to 1.5” in size and are very active swimmers. If insufficient natural foods are present or keeping in an aquarium you may supplement their diet with basic fish flakes. Please note the pictures shown are a good representation of our fish, but not the exact fish you will receive.
